Conflicts and Emergency programs

Two new rehabilitation projects set up by the European Union in cooperation and financed by ECHO and Caritas Austria have been launched on the 24th of May 2008 in the presence of representatives from the associations:
- A 900m long irrigation canal has been installed in the village of Saidi.
- Two bridges, destroyed during the 2006 Israeli attack, have just been reconstructed, linking up again the village of Boudaï to Baalbeck.
Moreover, in association with Caritas Switzerland and Luxembourg and in coordination with Boudaï and Aalak municipalities, 7 kms of irrigation canals have been installed.
With the financial support of Caritas Austria and the European Union, Caritas Lebanon launched two new development projects in West Bekaa in view of preventing local residents from migrating after the July-2006 conflict. The first project in Machghara included the reconstruction of a supporting wall for a local school as well as the rehabilitation of a road and sewage infrastructure. The second project carried out in Saghbine covered the rehabilitation of the Sœurs de la Sainte Famille school playground and provided various social and medical assistance. Basic food supplies were also distributed.
