Meeting with foreign ambassadors
For the second consecutive year, a meeting with foreign ambassadors and representatives was scheduled by CLMC on Friday December 5, 2008 in order to keep them informed on its activities and ask for the support of their governments. (See details Echoes 13 – 15 December 2008)

Christmas mass
Employees of CLMC celebrated Christmas during a church ceremony that took place at Ste Rita Church (Sin el Fil). Mrs. May Hazaz (head of Saint Joseph University Lebanese School for Social Work) talked about professional ethics within social work and importance of teamwork.

Christmas and Iraki children
On 31 December 2008, 500 children were invited to celebrate Christmas at the Lazarist Sisters School, in Beirut. They attended a play, participated to some games, sang Christmas carols and of course, received gifts… Many of the activities organized by CLMC are destined to Iraki children in order to give them the chance of growing up like any other child, hoping that one day, soon, they will be able to return to their homeland.

Violence against women
To mark the International Day Against Violence Against Women and call attention on a issue that affects the life of millions of women around the world, CLMC organized on the 25th of November a meeting where 43 women and 4 Iraki men discussed about the causes of this problem in the company of two social workers and two psychologists.
Certificates to General Security officers
On November 11th, 2008, certificates were distributed to the General Security investigators who took part in the workshop on Human Rights and Human Trafficking victims, organized by CLMC in collaboration with the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), and financed by the European Commission. This training session was held in North Lebanon, last March.
Ceremony took place in presence of the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Mr. Patrick Laurent and the representative of the General Director of the Internal Security Forces, General Achraf Rifi.
Certificates to General Security officers
As part of the cooperation that has been going on for many years between Caritas Lebanon and General Security, a workshop on human rights took place in collaboration with International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) and CLMC. Diplomas were delivered by the Migrants Center, at the end of the training session, to all participating officers in presence of Mr. William Grants, representing the US Embassy, Mr. John Klink, president ICMC, M. Johan Ketelers, Secretary General as well as several Lebanese figures.
World Refugees Day
To celebrate World Refugees Day (June 20), Caritas Lebanon Migrant’s Center took part in some activities scheduled by the UNHCR with its partners for refugees who have found shelter in Lebanon.
Thursday, June 19: National dances and handcraft made by refugees were presented during an exhibition that took place at the Babel Theater (Hamra) in presence of the UNHCR’s delegate in Lebanon, Mr. Stéphane Jacquemet).
Friday, June 20: Lunch was offered to detainees at the Retention Center of the General Security and Roumieh Prison.Saturday, June 21: Recreational activities (games, sport and special shows) were set up at Our Lady of Jamhour School, for about 600 children.
New Elderly center in Bourj Hammoud
A new center for Palestinian elderly was launched in Borj Hammoud (Greater Beirut) in February 2008. The “Social Center Love & Charity” was built in partnership with Caritas Austria and the European Commission Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO). It offers various cultural and social activities as well as medical and financial support in view of improving the quality of life of the elderly.
Migrants' rights
A 3-day training session held in March gathered CMCL employees around clarifying issues pertaining to foreign workers, and exchanging expertise on different cases.

Freeing Iraqi detainees
Between end of February and beginning of April 2008, 132 out of 400 illegal Iraqi immigrants held at the Detention Center for Foreigners – Adlieh were released in collaboration with the Directorate General of General Security, the UNHCR, and CLMC, and with the financial support of the CRS, the Secours Catholique.
A delegation from Caritas Lebanon also visited the detainees.
