At Qleia
As part of Caritas Lebanon school health program, 80 students of Qleia (South) Evening Study Program underwent an eye check-up offered by the UNIFIL Spanish contingent, as well as a regular medical and dental check-up.
Sewing workshop in Miyeh Miyeh
In order to offer job opportunities to women of the area, a sewing workshop was launched in Miyeh Miyeh (Saida Caza), on August 8, 2008. It is located in premises offered by the Saint-Georges Church Wakf, in the St George School.
Exhibition room in Deir el Ahmar
An exhibition and sales room for food products prepared by local inhabitants has been inaugurated in Deir el Ahamr, on Augst 24, 2008. This project, financed by the Italian cooperation, is being implemented in the Zahleh-Baalbeck-North Bekaa area and is aiming at involving women in the reconstruction and developemnt process through some targeted groups of the Village Banks. Also, seven production centers have been equiped by food processing machines, according to each area and village’s needs (Fakha, Jdeidet, Iaat, Chlifa, Btedi, Deir El Ahmar and Ferzol).

Zghorta
At the Zghorta –Ehden MSC, medical tests were performed on several people, in collaboration with Our Lady of Zghortas Hospital. Moreover, diabetis tests were carried out on 60 people, in cooperation with Zghorta-Zawieh’s Rotary Act.
The dental clinic offered by Zghorta-Zawieh’s Rotary and Innerwheel Clubs is now operating.

Each year, the « Union des Français de l’Etranger » (UFE)(French expatriates association) undertake a vaccination campaign against influenza. This fall, 50 people of Metn I Sector were vaccinated.

Caritas Lebanon’s MSC located in its Tripoli has launched an awareness campaign against ospteoporosis. Medical tests were carried out on about 30 people by Dr Ayad Abi Saleh. Appropriate therapy was prescribed to the people presenting symptoms of this disease.

Mobile Clinics
During its August meeting, Caritas Lebanon Medical departement discussed about the need of limiting the stops of Mobile clinics to only one village per day, in order to allow all its inhabitants to benefit from the MC services.
On the other hand, all MC have been equiped with instant blood exam laboratories and first aid material.

New laboratories for all Mobile Clinics
In July, all Caritas Mobile Clinics will be equipped with a laboratory able to perform blood tests and cardiac check-ups. Results will be instant.
A Seminar for the MSC and MC
A 2-day seminar was organized by Caritas Lebanon on the 1st and 2nd of July 2008, at the Bethania Center (Harissa), for its Medico-Social Centers and Mobile Clinics, in presence of Mr. Denis Vienot (Secours Catholique), Dr. Naji Saiby and Dr. Ghassan Chit Dirani, (members of Caritas Lebanon Council), and Dr. Rita Rhayem (coordinator of the Medical Department). Participants first analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of their department, and then discussed about medical interventions in emergency situations.

A new dental clinic has been recently launched in Zghorta Ehden Sector and is located in Our Lady of Zghorta’s hospital. Equipment is a present from Zghorta-Zawieh’s Rotary Club, in cooperation with the Innerwheel Club. The premises are put at Caritas Lebanon’s disposal by the hospital.

Dahr el Ain Medico-Social Center has just launched a psychology, psychomotor and speech therapy service in order to support school retarded children. This project will help establishing a more professional approach to this problem, especially on the level of cooperation between specialists, teachers and parents.

On March 15, 2008, Caritas Lebanon MSC moved to its new premises in Dr. Joseph Hraoui’s former clinic located in Hosh el Oumara (Zahleh). The clinic was offered to Caritas by the Hraoui family members after he passed away, and was inaugurated in their presence.
